My Live Call w/ Dan Koe

Earlier this week I attended a 1 hour masterclass featuring Dan Koe.

If you don't know who he is, Dan is the one that made having a one-person business popular.

Not to mention he has:

  • Over 2M Followers across platforms
  • 775k subscribers on Youtube
  • Mad over $3M the last year

As you guys know I am a huge Justin Welsh fan.

However, it was Dan and his philosophy around writing, audience building and business that got me started down this path.

2 years ago I took one of his Solopreneur Spint cohorts for $150 and it changed how I saw content forever.

So I have to give him credit...

The theme of the call was The Future of Work and he talked in depth about creators and how the cretor economy is shifting.

He also gave insights into his current strategies and what he would do if he was starting over.

Here were my 3 biggest takeaways from this epic call..

1. You are the niche.

I've it before and I will say it again.

You are the niche.

If you have ever watched any of Dan's most popular videos on YouTube you will know that this is the central idea for building online.

Ever since I've heard it, I've never been able to stop thinking about it.

It revolves around the idea that you should post about your goals, expertise, experiences, interests and curiosities.

This gives you a lot of topics to talk about without making you too broad or fitting in a niche box.

Over time you will attract people that are interested in the same things.

Once you grow a decent following you can niche down to reflect the audience you want to help.

Until then, you write about the things that make you...you.

2. Build a community

If you follow the advice from earlier, you'll start to build a community centered around the topics you care the most about.

This is different from just having followers.

Followers can be temporary.

Those that stick around, engage, and even reach out to you are what you want to aim for.

Having a community is everything because if you are working on similar goals then you can work together.

I recommend building a community as well as joining a community (paid or free).

Just recently joined the Microcreators community by Taylin Simmonds and it has been amazing.

It turns out the several of my friends were already in the community.

Since joining I've made new friends and set new goals.

3. Focus on long-form writing.

This is something I am practicing more these days.

Dan suggests this because it is the easiest way to tell your story and deliver value regularly.

A long-form post/thread once or twice a week is the minimum to see growth.

Another reason to go this route is because if the amount of repurposing you could do.

You guys know I am big on repurposing.

Dan was the one that originally taught me the concept.

Turning long-forms/threads into multiple smaller posts is a time-saver.

On top of that, you can distribute along multiple platforms.

For example I have been repurposing my long form X posts for captions on LinkedIn.

The results have been great and I plan to go deeper in a future letter.

There were alot more lessons I could get into but that would be 6000 word letter.

Overall this was the best masterclass I've attended in a long time.

If you want to learn about Dan I suggest his YouTube channel.

Let's get after it.

Til next week,

Ken
